I Made My First Affiliate Sale! 80 Cents and Everything Changed

Affiliate marketing for moms – first affiliate sale earnings screenshot

Once upon a time…

nah I’m just kidding!

It was a regular Saturday. I’d just got back from taking my girls to gymnastics, the house needed sorting and I had a to do list as long as my arm. Nothing special. Nothing out of the ordinary.

And then I checked my Amazon Associates account.

80 cents!

I know what you’re thinking. 80 cents?

That’s it?

But you don’t understand… I screenshotted it immediately, ran to tell my husband the second he got in from work and honestly felt like I’d won the lottery.

because in a way I had.

Not because of the money. Because of what it proved.

It proved that affiliate marketing for mums isn’t a myth. Even from my couch, in between school runs and gymnastics, the model actually works — and that first 80 cents was the proof I needed to keep going.

Who I Am and Why I’m Building This

I’m a stay at home mum of four, based in the UK, with ADHD, building three online brands simultaneously from my couch while raising my girls and trying not to lose my mind.

I left a nearly two decade career as a freelance artist because it was burning me out. The money was okay but the cost, weekends away from my kids, the emotional drain, the physical exhaustion was too high.

So I walked away and decided to build something different.

Something that could earn while I sleep.

Something that was mine.

I’m building three brands.

Brand One: my past self, the creative world I came from.

Brand Two: my present self, health, lifestyle, faith and real life.

Brand Three: my future self, documenting the honest journey of building online income from scratch.

This is that honest journey. No fluff. No fake screenshots. No guru nonsense. Just a real mum figuring it out in real time.

Where I Actually Started From

I want to be honest about something. I didn’t start this month from zero. I’ve had my sites for around three years but I haven’t been consistent. Weeks of work followed by weeks of nothing. Three brands pulling my attention in different directions. ADHD making decisions feel impossible some days.

Sound familiar?

I’ve made every mistake a beginner blogger makes. Random posts with no structure. No keyword research. No content strategy. Pinterest pins that got saves but zero clicks. I even tried selling resellable content and quickly realised that wasn’t for me, well full-time anyway. Everything felt generic and I refused to sell something I didn’t believe in.

But recently something shifted. I got serious about strategy. I restructured my content around proper pillar posts, clusters and leaves. I switched entirely to text overlay pins on Pinterest. I started treating this like a real business instead of a hobby I dipped in and out of.

How That Sale Actually Happened

Here’s the thing nobody tells you: you don’t know what’s going to work until something actually does.

I’ve been throwing content at the wall for three years. Random posts, no real strategy, Pinterest pins that looked pretty but got saved and never clicked. I didn’t even know what I was doing half the time, honestly. ADHD brain + three brands + no clear direction = a lot of spinning.

But recently I got annoyed with myself. I stopped making pretty pins and started making text-heavy pins instead. Stopped writing random posts and started thinking about who was actually searching for what I was writing about. And I got more consistent. Not perfect, just… actually showing up.

So on this ordinary Saturday, someone found one of my niche posts on Brand One. They weren’t just browsing. They had an actual need, an event, something specific they were solving for. They read my post, trusted it enough to click my Amazon link, and bought something.

80 cents.

I screenshotted it immediately and showed my husband the second he got home. His reaction made me laugh, he knows how much I’ve doubted this whole thing.

What That 80 Cents Actually Taught Me

It’s not about the money. It’s about this:

The model works.

Someone found my content. Trusted my recommendation. Bought something. I earned money while sitting on my sofa watching TV. That’s not luck. That’s proof.

It also taught me that specificity matters. The post that converted wasn’t some generic “10 ways to…” listicle. It was detailed, niche, solving a real problem for someone with actual buying intent. When someone is reading about what they need (not what they’re just casually interested in), they’re ready to buy. That’s the golden ticket.

And honestly? It reminded me why I’m doing this. Because this is passive. This scales. This compounds. I don’t need a viral post or thousands of followers. I just need posts that help real people solve real problems — and some of those people will click and buy.

What I’m Actually Testing Next

Here’s where I’m winging it, but intentionally.

I’m going to write more posts in that niche on Brand One. Not because I have a master plan, but because one post worked and I want to see if the pattern repeats. More text-heavy Pinterest pins, because those are clearly doing better than the pretty ones.

I’m curious about what happens if I batch-create content instead of doing one post here, one post there. I’m wondering if certain types of posts convert better than others. I’m going to keep an eye on what actually gets clicked (not just what gets pinned or saved — actual clicks).

Beyond that? I honestly don’t know. Maybe digital products. Maybe email list building. Maybe I’ll realise something else works better. The point is I’m not pretending to have it all figured out. I’m documenting what’s working and doing more of it.

I’m also going to stop saying “I’ll do it consistently this time” and just… do it. No big announcements, no rigid plans that crumble the second life gets messy. Just showing up, writing posts, pinning them, and seeing what happens.

The Messy Middle

Real talk: I’m inconsistent. My ADHD makes it hard to choose which brand to work on some days. I’ve got three sites pulling my attention and sometimes I close the laptop in frustration because I can’t decide which one needs me more.

But 80 cents proves that even my inconsistent, imperfect efforts are working.

So I’m not waiting to have it all figured out. I’m not waiting for the perfect strategy or the right plan. I’m just going to keep doing what’s working and paying attention to what happens next.

To Anyone Wondering If This Is Real

If you’re a mum at 11pm scrolling through blog posts wondering if affiliate marketing actually works, or if you’re just wasting your time… it’s real. I promise.

Not fast. Not glamorous. Not a “quit your job in 90 days” kind of real.

But there will be a random Saturday when you check your phone and see money from something you wrote sitting on your sofa. And it will hit different.

I’m not going to tell you to stay consistent or have an unwavering plan. I can’t promise that because I don’t live like that. But I can promise that even messy, inconsistent effort adds up. Even three brands pulling my attention and ADHD brain chaos didn’t stop one sale from happening.

So if you’re winging it like me? That’s okay. Just keep the content coming. Pay attention to what actually works. And don’t close the laptop before the compound effect shows up.

ان شاء الله — it’s coming. 🤍
